I’m Sam, a California-based abstract landscape painter. While painting isn’t my full-time profession, it has become a central part of my life.

Growing up in San Diego and now living in South Lake Tahoe, I’ve been shaped by two very different California landscapes. The Pacific coastline and the Sierra Nevada continue to influence my work, not as literal places, but as impressions distilled through abstraction.

Painting began as a personal project to create artwork for my own home. Then during Tahoe’s historic winter of 2022, months of record snowfall kept me indoors and gave me the opportunity to paint every day, transforming a casual pursuit into a dedicated practice.

Working primarily in mixed media on raw canvas, I simplify natural forms to explore atmosphere, light, and composition, creating original paintings that evoke a sense of place rather than depict one.
